Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on January. 19. 1946 to a poor family with 12 kids at one point, realized that she could get away from the hardships of her life by using a vivid imagination. Prior to learning how to read or write, she composed her own music. Within 8 years she had her very first guitar. At age 11 she started singing at Knoxville Tenn's local radio station. The first album she recorded was within the same calendar year with Gold Band Records, a tiny independent label. While she was a local star while in the high school years, her goals were bigger. When she was graduating in 1964, she relocated to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were the first two albums to chart for Monument Records. At about this time Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for his television show that was syndicated. Parton was offered the gig in 1967 and signed with RCA Records in 1968 and joined in the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. She quit Wagoner's act in 1974 after her own hits like Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene outsold the collaborations. Parton recorded I Will Always Love You in honor of Wagoner after their breakup.
